Recently, I did some research on sensory balls as I have been seeing many online shops selling sensory training balls. I was wondering how could it aid in the learning process of Reuben? Here is what I found out from my research.
Infants and kids learn best and retain the information in their brain whenever they engage their senses. Sensory balls engages their touch sense. The various textures from the balls enables them to learn the different materials. Some of these sensory balls can be squashed so it helps in the muscle development of the kid. When you expose your kids to sensory learning, it helps to improve their nervous system. An adult’s nervous system is actually developed during the first seven years of his life as a child. Therefore is critical that you expose your kids to various sorts of sensory training as early as possible. Sensory balls is just one of the many sensory activities that can be done at home.
I ordered 2 sets of sensory balls from Amazon and i purchased some coloured ping pong balls from the local store. I wanted to DIY some sensory balls so the below pictures depict what I did.
I mixed the balls with the ones I bought into a plastic box and poured them out on the playmat for Reuben to play with them. As I took out the balls and laid them down. I explained to Reuben the purpose of the sensory balls as well as introduce the various colours of the balls to him. This is the first time that I am officially introducing these colours to him; Red, Blue, Green, Orange and Yellow.
Finally managed to get Reuben to post for a shot. Trying to look cool
Now, Reuben is at an age where he would put anything in his hand into his mouth. Just gotta watch him!
This sensory play exercise took me about 15 minutes to complete. I am so glad that he did not scream or cry as he has been a little cranky this couple of days. Instead I saw a smiley face as he touched the various ball textures. He even attempted to eat the sensory balls as seen from the picture above. I would be adding more sensory stuff over the next few months into his stash and be coming up with new activities for Reuben to enjoy! Stay tuned for more home learning stuff on my blog.
